Frequently Asked Questions
Does a baby scan with Ultrasound Elite replace my NHS scheduled scan?
No. Even if you have private scans, we highly recommend that you continue with your NHS scheduled scans.
When should I arrive?
Please arrive 5 minutes before your appointment.
What do I do when I arrive?
Please wait at reception if you arrive before your appointment. A receptionist or sonographer will greet you and guide you to the clinic room.
How long will my appointment last?
This depends on the type of scan you are having — please see the information under our individual services for more details.
Do I need to have a full bladder?
Please eat and drink as normal before your appointment. It's important you are well hydrated for the best image quality — drink a couple of glasses of water (0.5 litres) about an hour before. Please do not empty your bladder before your appointment.
Can I bring friends and family with me?
Yes, we encourage you to bring your loved ones to share in this special experience.
Should I bring anything with me?
Please bring any notes from your midwife or doctor. For early pregnancy scans, if you haven't had a midwife appointment yet you can still visit us.
What should I wear?
We will need to expose the abdomen so it is best to wear a two-piece outfit — for example trousers or a skirt with a separate top.
What happens if you can't see the baby well?
We offer a free rescan if your baby's position is not favourable at the time of your initial appointment. This will be discussed with you during your visit.
Is it safe?
Ultrasound scanning during pregnancy is considered safe for both mothers and babies. We follow guidance set out by The British Medical Ultrasound Society. All of our sonographers are fully trained, qualified and experienced in obstetric scanning.
What happens if you see any problems?
If anything is identified which needs further attention, the sonographer will explain this to you and support you in obtaining further care. You will also be given a written report of the findings.
